There are hundreds of books I love to read. The authors bring me back every time they release a new book. This is an evolving list and I’ll update it from time to time. Check out the books if you love mysteries and thrillers. Just click on the cover to find it on amazon. They are affiliate links, but that doesn’t cost you anything and I don’t get any information on you.

Everything you want in a gritty British mystery. A damaged protagonist – or two. A grizzly murder with a suspect who won’t talk.

An author friend recommended this book to me as a starter for Jane Harper’s stories. Set in the Outback, this one is a story about the harsh realities of living in an environment that is vast and unforgiving.

I took a continuing ed course in mystery fiction for those of us over the half century and one of the outcomes was a list of book recommendations. This one caught my fancy right away. It’s full of inevitable but still surprising twists and great characters.

I got this recommendation from the same course. Set in Quebec this is the beginning of what I guess is a cozy, but it’s pretty gritty. In the townships region of the province, a small village not even on the map but big enough for murder.

I was a contest judge at one time and I read this book as an entry. I was hooked right away. As soon as book 2 came out, I grabbed it and devoured it. It’s a trilogy, the third book is in progress, but I suggest grabbing the first two right away.

I’m a sucker for quirky detectives. I found this one included in a bundle. I bought the next book in the series, and the next, and… well, you get it.

This one is pure thriller. I guess I’m also attracted to damaged heroes. Mark has a ton of books in this series, so you won’t run out of reading any time soon.
